Boss Tweed
   Boss Tweed is chiefly remembered for the corruption of his Tammany Hall political group, sometimes called a "machine." Through leadership of Tammany Hall,  he stole massive sums of money from the city of New York in the late 1800s.
   He got support from poor immigrants who he helped by giving jobs. At at time when city governments were not efficient in providing services for a large population, Tweed provided leadership, but he did so while stealing lots of money from NYC.
   Thomas Nast, a cartoonist, helped to stop "Boss" Tweed and end his political ruler of NYC.
DIRECTIONS: 
Provide a brief description of what you see in the cartoons (below) and explain why the imagery in this cartoon supports your thoughts about Tweed.
